Lives Unlived
02:35

Drove up pulaski
Till the buildings all thinned out
Then headed towards the lake
Passing up places
Where I would never live
An empty porch
Where i'd never sit
Felt the weight of
Lives Unlived
All the bars are empty the
Lights have all gone off
A Taxis lonely muffler coughs
Into a dead night unmoving
A neon sign flickers
A tree branch shivers its
Final leaf off
Some shadow skitters off
Saw a stone statue man
From the corner of my eye
Lit up by a streetlight
And I felt the weight
Of all lives unlived

Hidden Coyotes
02:13
|

From my window I see many other windows
into many other lives being lived around me
My dog rests on the bed snoring softly late
afternoon shadows grow
and spread into the stillness
Of the block over trashcans
Overflowing an alley rat
Blistered open I’m hoping it’s
Carried away by some cat or coyote
Of which there are allegedly
Thousands hidden and living
All around us and I’d believe
that. I have never seen most
Of my neighbors so I’d imagine I
Am surrounded by more than
Just hidden coyotes. There are
Invisible forces in motion all the
Time. I find that both
Comforting and disturbing depending
On my mood
